We caught up with the Pulp Design Studios team to discuss their latest residential project in Dallas, Texas, which saw a relocating New York family needing their very first single-family home after years of apartment living.

Project Overview / What was the project brief?

This transplanted New York family needed their very first single-family home after years of apartment living. We wanted to be sure it had everything they wanted - and more. The house has a very modern design that offers a new twist on farmhouse chic. Floor-to-ceiling windows and doors let in beautiful natural light. This family loves to entertain and welcome family and friends, so we made sure that the spaces effortlessly flow throughout the indoor and outdoor areas. And we wanted to perfectly blend vintage looks with modern style.

What Gabriel Scott items did you specify for this project & why?

We selected the Luna 2-Tier chandelier. The beams in the ceiling and those stunning wood floors give that farmhouse chic style. So to balance that and give a more contemporary look, we selected this very modern fixture. The linear design complements the straight lines of the beams and the island, while the glass discs and bubbles have a great vintage vibe.

Did you customize these pieces to work with the project? If so, how?

We customized the way the pieces hang so they would provide the perfect amount of task lighting on the island and work space.

What do you look for in furniture when specifying for a project?

We always look for high-quality pieces that will not only look stunning, but will function perfectly for the family that lives in the home. We always want to combine luxury design with a flair for the unexpected.

How do you use lighting to elevate the spaces you design?

We love lighting that makes a statement, that is almost like a work of art. Of course, it must be functional and provide that perfect amount of light in the space. But we also want people to gasp as they walk into the room, to give them that sense of drama and style. The right light fixture can definitely do that.

What was your favorite part of designing this project?

We love the open-plan space of the living room and kitchen. Our clients love to entertain with lots of friends and family, and this is a gorgeous and show-stopping place for them to gather and celebrate.
