Dining Room Lighting Inspiration from TK Design

20 January 2024
Interviews

TK Design was incorporated in 2013 by its lead designer, Tova Kook. A former design student at the Fashion Institute of Technology, Kook takes the elements of design to the next level.

An artist herself, she has an innate understanding of the relationship between color, space, and proportion. Focusing on transforming interiors into sophisticated but comfortable environments for everyday living, she seamlessly blends the needs of her client with her own unique vision.

Her ultimate goal? To create spaces that are at once stylish and timeless – spaces that will serve her clients well for many years to come.

Read our interview with Tova Kook about TK Design's latest residential project in Scarsdale, USA.

Project Overview / What was the project brief?

This project was a dining room revamp for our client in Scarsdale.

What Gabriel Scott items did you specify for this project & why?

I specified the Myriad Chandelier to contemporize the space. I really love the way this piece becomes a showstopper, while also anchoring a room. It’s the perfect combination.

Did you customize these pieces to work with the project? If so, how?

We adjusted the height of the stem, but other than that, we kept the piece as-is!

What do you look for in furniture when specifying for a project?

I look for attractive, yet comfortable, and practical pieces. I also look for specific things that will suit my clients’ needs. For this dining room, I knew it was important for the chairs to be high back, as my clients are tall and find higher backs to be more comfortable. I also made sure the output and temperature of the myriad chandelier was suitable for the space.

How do you use lighting to elevate the spaces you design?

I truly feel that lighting is the jewelry of a space. It is the most important element to any room. Lighting plays with perceptions and creates unique viewing experiences, and every lighting selection truly sets the tone for an entire space.

What was your favorite part of designing this project?

My favorite part of designing this space was truly when the Myriad went up. We ordered this fixture during covid, and there was a crazy backlog to get it in, so when it finally did arrive and go up, it was impactful and beyond chic!
