London Design Festival: The Evolution of Luxury in Hospitality Design Panel Talk

30 September 2021
Events, Videos

This past year has seen profound change in the way global luxury consumers live and shop, and in what they value. Recent reports suggest that this year will see a transition from an extended period of conspicuous consumption to a new era of conscientious luxury. One report by Bain argues that by 2030 we will no longer talk of the luxury market anymore, but of the market for “insurgent cultural and creative excellence”.

“In this new, enlarged space, winning brands will be those that build on their existing excellence while reimagining the future with an insurgent mindset. Luxury players will need to think boldly to rewrite the rules of the game, transforming their operations and redefining their purpose to meet new customer demands and retain their relevance, especially for younger generations, who are set to drive 180% of the growth in the market from 2019 to 2025.”

As part of London Design Festival, luxury lighting and furniture studio Gabriel Scott hosted a panel discussion with some of the most renowned brands in the industry, including The Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, Banda Property, Piercy & Company, Mr & Mrs Smith Hotels and Winch Design.

Ahead of the Welles’ fifth anniversary in 2022, we have continued our exploration of glass-blowing techniques to create a new custom textured glass finish option which offers our clients additional options in the way they choose to configure their fixture.

Chaired by Henrietta Thompson, contributing editor for Wallpaper* magazine and Telegraph and BA columnist, the panel discussion explored:

  • What does this mean for the suppliers, designers, architects, operators and owners who form the luxury design and hospitality industry?
  • How do they evolve their offering to stay competitive?
  • What are the main drivers and considerations when designing innovative products and spaces for clients?
  • What are the main challenges the industry faces in a post pandemic world, and how do we overcome them?
